As seen with Desktop App v2, uninstalling the App leaves behind certain data folders containing an application state. This allows you to upgrade or reinstall the app without having to go through the device registration process again.
Occasionally, however, you may want to start from a completely clean state, or you may be asked to do this by Banyan Support. To completely uninstall Desktop App v3, follow these directions.
We need to perform the following steps:
1. Unregister The Device:
- Unregister your device from all organizations in the Banyan Desktop App.
- Open the Banyan App.
- Click the Settings Gear.
- Click your Organization Name.
- Click Unregister Device.
- In the system taskbar, click the Banyan icon to open the app.
- In the title bar of the Banyan Desktop App, click the gear icon to access settings.
- Click Quit.
2. Uninstall Banyan Desktop App:
macOS
- Quit the Banyan Desktop App as described above.
- Open the Terminal app and type these commands:
NOTE: Make sure you run the above commands as the registered user. Do not sudo as root and then run these commands.
- sudo launchctl unload -w "/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.banyan.banyanapp-admin.plist"
- sudo launchctl unload -w "/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.banyan.banyanwgs.plist"
- sudo rm -f /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.banyan.banyanapp-admin.plist
- sudo rm -f /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.banyan.banyanwgs.plist
- rm -r -f ~/Library/Application\ Support/banyanapp
- rm -f ~/.ssh/bnn.config
- rm -f ~/.ssh/bnn-dev.config
- sudo rm -r -f /etc/banyanapp
- sudo rm -r -f /Applications/Banyan.app
- Open the Keychain Access app.
- Use the search bar in the top right corner to search for "BNN". There should be 2 certificates: Root certificate and Device certificate
- For each certificate that you see, right-click and then select Delete.
Now, you can re-install the latest Banyan Desktop App and re-register your macOS device.
Windows
- Quit the Banyan Desktop App as described above.
- Open the Control Panel and go to Programs and Features.
- Double click on Banyan icon to uninstall it
- Open the Manager User Certificates
- Navigate to the folder Personal > Certificates. If there are any certificates issued by "Banyan Private Root CA", delete them.
- Repeat the above step in the folder Trusted Root Certificate Authorities > Certificates.
- Close the Certificate Manager.
- Open the Manage Windows Credentials:
- Expand Generic Credentials > Banyan Safe Storage/Banyan and Remove it
- Expand Generic Credentials > Banyan Safe Storage/Banyan and Remove it
- Remove old config files:
- Delete /ProgramData/Banyan
- Delete %AppData%/Banyanapp
Now, you can re-install the latest Banyan Desktop App and re-register your Windows device.
